One of the most practical advantages of Kajabi is that email marketing lives in the same system as your courses, products, and student data. You're not exporting lists between platforms or building integrations between your course tool and your email tool. Your subscriber behavior, purchase history, and product engagement are all available to inform your email strategy without any extra configuration.

Broadcasts vs. Sequences

Kajabi's email system handles two types of email: broadcasts and sequences.

Broadcasts are one-time emails sent to a defined segment of your audience at a specific time. Use them for newsletters, launch announcements, content updates, and any time-sensitive communication. You can schedule broadcasts in advance and segment the recipients based on tags, product enrollment, or other criteria.

Sequences are automated series of emails triggered by a specific action, such as subscribing to a form, purchasing a product, or joining a pipeline. Sequences run automatically for each new subscriber who triggers them, delivering the right message at the right time without manual effort.

Building a Sequence in Kajabi

Sequences in Kajabi are built within the Email section of your dashboard. You define the trigger (what action starts the sequence), then build the email series with your chosen timing intervals. Each email in the sequence is written and configured individually. Kajabi's visual sequence builder makes it straightforward to see the flow and adjust timing or content without touching code.

Segmentation With Tags

Tags are Kajabi's primary segmentation tool. You can tag contacts based on the products they've purchased, the forms they've filled out, the pipelines they've gone through, or manually based on any criteria you choose. Tags then become the basis for targeted broadcasts and conditional logic in sequences, allowing you to send relevant emails to specific subsets of your audience rather than blasting everything to everyone.

Using Email in Pipelines

Kajabi's pipeline feature (its funnel builder) includes email steps that fire automatically as contacts move through the pipeline flow. A contact who opts in to your lead magnet pipeline receives the lead magnet delivery email automatically, followed by whatever nurture sequence you've connected. The pipeline and email systems work together so the entire subscriber journey from opt-in to offer is managed in one place.

Connecting Email to Your Product Data

Because Kajabi holds both your email list and your product data, you can trigger emails based on product-specific behavior. Email students who haven't logged in recently. Send a completion congratulations when a student finishes a course. Offer an upsell to buyers of a specific product. These behavior-based automations, which would require complex integrations in a multi-tool setup, are native in Kajabi.
